COCOA PRICES DIP AS DOLLAR STRENGTHENS

COCOA PRICES DIP AS DOLLAR STRENGTHENS

Macquarie Bank in the UK reports that cocoa prices hit a one-year low of US$3,000/tonne in early February on the back of the strengthening Dollar, but then appeared to be consolidating.

In main producing country, Côte d’Ivoire, the voter registration process was recently suspended indefinitely because of rising tensions. This will likely further delay the much awaited presidential election, seen as a precursor for necessary reforms to the ailing cocoa sector.

Elsewhere in Africa, some rain was noted in Nigeria, which should help with the development of the mid-crop there, said Macquarie.
