NEW YORK FEATURES FALL ON STRONGER DOLLAR

NEW YORK FEATURES FALL ON STRONGER DOLLAR

Macquarie Bank reports that a stronger Dollar and selling pressure from the Brazilian harvest recently pushed New York futures to below 160c/lb.

Arabica coffee exports from Central America, Mexico and Colombia during the October-June period reached 18.1 million bags, down 10.8 per cent year-on-year.

Brazilian coffee exports, by contrast, rose 11 per cent year-on-year to 25.6 million bags in the 12 months to June 2010.

Colombia – which for the past two years has battled with heavy rains, drought, pests and diseases, high fertilizer prices and the effects of an ongoing replanting programme – should see production recover to above 10 million bags, helping replenish premium quality Arabica supplies from what the bank called “critically low levels.”
